St. Mary's started issuing a school managed Apple ID for all new students, faculty and staff beginning in the Fall of 2017. The primary reason we use this is to allow for 200GB of iCloud sync/storage/backup and for the option of teachers to better use the Classroom App. This is tied to SMA Microsoft 365 accounts. The downside of this model for parents is managing the Screen Time options for their daughters must be done from the SMA iPad.
A required personal Apple ID is used by students, faculty and staff to purchase/download Apps, books, etc. from Apple. This could have been an Apple ID that already existed when you enrolled at SMA or one you can create one at https://appleid.apple.com. It should not be a shared Apple ID but can be part of "Family Sharing" although "Ask to Buy" will need to be temporarily turned off by the Family Sharing Organizer when purchasing an App or book. The Apps, books, etc. that you purchase with this ID will still be yours after leaving St. Mary's.
Downloading From the App and Book Stores (iPadOS 15+)
- Follow these instructions carefully.
- Go to App Store > tap on your profile picture at the top right
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out.
- Enter your personal Apple ID and password then tap Sign In.
- Assuming that is successful you should then be able to download Apps from the App Store (and Book Store).
DO NOT sign out of the Apple ID at the top of Settings! Otherwise you lose the 200GB of iCloud storage for backing up and collaboration!
