The following are the steps that must take place before the purchased senior SMA iPad can be released from the school management system. Follow these instructions carefully and DO NOT skip steps.
- Make sure you have backed up the files you want to keep: Backing up your files to a different location – Tech Help @ St. Mary's Academy (zendesk.com)
- When you have completed all of your class work send an email to Tech Help using your SMA email and CC your personal email when you are ready to erase your iPad. DO NOT send this email on a Friday (after 3 pm), Saturday, or Sunday (or holiday) as we are likely not online to perform the next steps.
- Once received we will reply back to that "ready to erase" message and remove the School Apps. Note: If the school Apps were already removed you still need to wait for the reply from us to your "ready to erase" message.
- ONLY when all the school Apps and links have disappeared from the iPad then go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.
- DO NOT connect your iPad to any Wi-Fi for 24 hours leaving it at the "Hello" Screen. This gives us time to release the device and for Apple to recognize it is no longer owned by St. Mary's.
- Once you receive an email from Tech Help that the process is complete go ahead and set up your iPad using your personal Apple ID. DO NOT choose 'restore from backup' with your school-managed ID as it will put our mobile device management right back on because it is included in the backup.
- You can re-download all the Apps you previously installed and any others you found valuable that the school sent out. Notability is likely one of those Apps that does have a free version but many of the features are now subscription-based.
Important Note: If while setting it back up you encountered either the screen to add it back to St. Mary's Academy for management or an activation lock message prompting for the email/password that is something like *****@*****.org, that you don't recognize, you will need to bring your iPad to the school to have Tech Help complete the process. Send an email to Tech Help to arrange a time to visit.
REALLY Important Note: On July 1st, any iPads that have been purchased that are still connected to the school system will have the Apps pushed out by the school removed. The iPad will then be erased remotely without notice shortly thereafter.
