The most common malware these days is typically distributed through internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, etc.). If someone has reported to you that they are receiving spam or phishing emails from your personal email address here are the steps you should take:
- Clear the history, cookies, data, etc. from all the browsers you use on your device (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.).
- Close those browsers.
- Update your device OS to the latest version.
- Reboot your device (turn it fully off and power back on again after 1 minute).
- If you have anti-virus/anti-malware software do a scan of your device.
- After rebooting your device change your personal email password (ideally from a separate device you haven't used before to access your personal email).
