The most common malware these days is typically distributed through internet browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, etc.). If someone has reported to you that they are receiving spam or phishing emails from your personal email address here are the steps you should take:
- Clear the history, cookies, data, etc. from all the browsers you use on your device (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.).
- Close those browsers.
- Update your device OS to the latest version.
- Reboot your device (turn it fully off and power back on again after 1 minute).
- If you have anti-virus/anti-malware software do a scan of your device.
- Check your email settings for a mail rule that may be there you didn't set up (may be moving mail with key words to another folder where you wouldn't notice) and delete it.
- After rebooting your device change your personal/school email password (ideally from a separate device you haven't used before to access your personal/school email). If Tech Help changed your password, contact them either in person or over the phone to obtain new password.
If you have any questions, please Submit a request at the top right of this page or email Tech Help.
