The Boyle Center has 3 Lulzbot SideKick 747 3D printers on the East side of the room. The following are basic instructions.
1. Create your design with whatever 3D modeling App/Site you choose. Tinkercad is the most popular having an App for the iPad or using a browser on any computer.
2. Download your image file to a laptop that has Cura installed.
3. Using the Lulzbot Cura software that is on the SMA laptops, or that can be downloaded to your personal laptop via https://lulzbot.com/support/cura, go ahead and load your design. Note: When you set up Cura the first time, you want to be sure to choose:
- 3d Printer: Lulzbot SideKick 747
- Tool Head: METEOR 175
4. After loading your design, choose which filament you will use. Important: Make sure the type and temperature settings match the filament, or your prints will not turn out as intended.
5. When you have set up the print how you want it, go ahead and "Slice" it into an STL (.stl) file.
6. Copy the STL file to an SD card. Ms. O'Brien or Ms. Vincent can check out adapters and cards.
7. Plug the SD card into one of the 3D printers that match the filament type you chose.
8. Power on the printer.
9. Using the control panel on the printer, push on the wheel, scroll down to Media, and choose the file you created.
10. Print.
11. When it is done, on the control panel, choose Motion > Auto-Park.
12. Power down the printer when the tool head is done moving to the top middle.
This is a high-level description of how the process works. Many steps have been excluded as there are many different ways to set up a print which would be tedious to post here.
