Notability is a great application that works with others on our iPad. However, it can sometimes encounter problems especially if there are issues with your iCloud account or your iPad storage.
All notes have disappeared?
Students log out of iCloud with their school Managed ID and login with their personal Apple ID. Notes will disappear as it is now looking at personal iCloud storage. Simply resolved by logging out of iCloud and logging back in with their SMA Managed ID. Notes will eventually reappear back in Notability (can take a while depending on the number of notes accumulated over the years.).
Asking you to pay for more storage?
Students update the App from the App Store rather than waiting for automatic updates from our mobile device management. This usually installs the personal version of Notability which has a storage limit, and they prompt you to pay to retain your notes. Apple Pencil is not working for just Notability?
This usually involves the Apple Pencil not disconnecting from Notability. The end result is not allowing writing/drawing, but you can do add text. To resolve this issue:
- Open any note in Notability.
- Tap on the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Info.
- Tap 'Disconnect Apple Pencil' at the bottom of that menu.

Important Update: Notability (Ginger Labs) had decided to switch to a subscription-based platform with their newest version 11.0. Those that purchased a lifetime license (like SMA) that deploy with MDM are supposed to continue to work with features like iCloud Sync.
