Families that have set "Ask to Buy" on Apple IDs under Family Sharing, whoever has the "Organizer" role, must turn that feature off (at least temporarily) when the student needs to install a book or App. It can then be turned back on. This is because our school managed Apple IDs blocks the functionality of Ask to Buy. Apple is aware of the issue, but no ETA for resolving the problem.
Step-by-Step Instructions for the Account Organizer
- Open Settings: On your iPhone or iPad, tap the Settings app.
- Access Your Apple ID: Tap on your name at the top of the Settings menu to access your Apple ID settings.
- Select Family Sharing: In the Apple ID settings, tap on Family Sharing.
- Choose the Family Member: Scroll down to find the family member for whom you want to turn off "Ask to Buy" and tap on their name.
- Turn Off Ask to Buy: You will see the Ask to Buy option. Tap on it and then toggle the switch next to 'Require Purchase Approval' off (so it isn't green). This will disable the "Ask to Buy" feature for that family member, allowing them to make purchases without needing your approval. This might take a few minutes before it works. After the book or App has been downloaded, this can be turned back on. Recommend this be done at home, where both the organizer and student are together.
