iPad storage is data (files, documents, photos, videos, etc.) stored directly on the iPad. iCloud storage is data that is stored in the "cloud". This can be confusing since data can be stored in both and have limits.
iPad Storage
Like any electronic device the storage on the iPad can become full. This can cause it to become slow, non-responsive touch screen, 'glitchy' behavior, and can even lead to loss of school work. Typically there is an automatic notification on the iPad when it is nearly full.
You can check how much storage is being used on your iPad, and what Apps are using the most, by going to Settings > General > iPad Storage. There may also be recommendations to "Optimize Photos" or "Offload Unused Apps" on this screen which we recommend that you use. If you scroll down on this same screen and select iCloud Backup you can see when the last full backup occurred. This typically happens at night when you plug it into power.
Note: There are some Apps like iMovie that utilize photos and videos in the camera roll. So please be careful in what you delete as it can affect other work.
iCloud Storage
Apple iCloud storage is used to back up the iPad AND to synchronize documents, photos, files, etc. among various devices.
Every student has been issued a school managed Apple ID (Office 365 account) which has 200GB of storage space in iCloud.
You can check how much iCloud storage is being used by going to Settings > tap your name at the top left > iCloud. If you tap Manage Storage you will see how much each of the Apps are using in iCloud.
